It’s never too early to start planning a cruise to the wonderful Christmas markets of Germany, Czech Republic and Austria. The cruise I took with Avalon River Cruises began in Prague and included a tour of the Charles Bridge, the castle and the old town. Leaving Prague we took a motorcoach through the Czech countryside to the city of Nuremberg. Here we boarded our home for the next week. The ship only has cabins on the outside so everyone has a view. In nice weather the top deck is a great place to watch the beautiful scenery pass. We actually had great weather for December, but it was too cold for the top deck. We spent the time on the ship in the lounge which offered panoramic views. Each day we stopped in one or two towns along the river. Each stop had a tour and time for shopping at the markets. How nice to walk off the ship and start our tour or get on a bus and then return to our floating hotel. All meals are served in the ship’s dining room and wine is included with dinner. My cruise ended on a high note in Vienna which was lavishly decorated for Christmas and had markets spread about the city.
